Florida right fielder Ty Evans was injured when he tried to track down a fly ball in foul territory and crashed hard into the wall.

The play occurred in the top of the fifth inning, with Florida sporting a 4-0 lead. Evans appeared to try to brace himself against the wall just before impact, but he came away holding his right arm in serious pain.

After a minute or two of trainers checking him out, Evans walked off the field on his own power. His arm was not braced in place or anything like that, hopefully suggesting any injury is minor.

But Evans did head straight to the team facilities through the dugout.

It had been a forgettable afternoon for Evans to that point, with his previous at-bat leaving a runner in scoring position. He was 0-for-3 at the plate on the day.

Florida replaced Evans by putting Michael Robertson at center field and moving Hayden Yost to right field. Robertson immediately recorded an out on a flyout after Evans’ departure.

The Ty Evans injury comes at a critical juncture for Florida, with the Gators desperately needing a few more wins to secure a postseason berth. The Gators have not missed the NCAA Tournament since 2007.

So far on Saturday, though, things were going well for Florida.

Florida took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Yost hit an RBI double to left-center field.

The scoring sequence started when Luke Heyman was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Brody Donay then hit into a fielder’s choice, before Tyler Shelnut struck out swinging for the second out.

Yost then doubled, plating the game’s first run.

Florida would add two more in the bottom of the third inning. A leadoff home run to right field by Cade Kurland started the damage, then Jac Caglianone doubled down the right field line. He came home when Colby Shelton hit a one-out, RBI single to right field, making it 3-0 Florida.

The Gators plated another in the bottom of the fourth inning when Shelnut singled and then came home on a Dale Thomas double to left-center field, making it 4-0.

Florida, of course, will be hoping to finish off the win and get good news on the Ty Evans injury front.
