Florida had yet to lose a player to the portal during this cycle, coming off of winning the national title. That’s now changed, though, with its first reported transfer entry followed by another.

Sam Alexis has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That reporting comes per On3’s Jamie Shaw on Friday.

Alexis just finished his lone season at Florida after transferring in last offseason from Chattanooga. In total over 89 collegiate appearances, Alexis has now averaged 7.1 points (52.5% FG, 28.5% 3PT), 5.7 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.1 assists per game. That’s coming off 4.7 points (46.5% FG, 20% 3PT) and 3.5 rebounds in 24 outings off the bench, but he appeared just once in the final 16 games over the last month and a half of the season with an ankle injury.

At Chattanooga, Alexis became an all-conference performer for the Mocs. He averaged 7.9 points (54.1% FG, 30.6% 3PT), 6.5 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.3 assists there in earning selections to the All-Southern Third Team, the All-Southern Defensive Team, and the All-Southern Freshman Team.

Alexis transferred last offseason as a Top 75 player and a Top 15 PF per On3’s Industry Ranking of 2024’s Top Transfer Portal Players. He’d then commit to Florida, a home state school as a native of Apopka, over schools like Georgia, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Providence, and Xavier.

This is the second loss in the portal during this cycle, and of the day, for Florida. Soon after the entry by Alexis, On3’s Joe Tipton reported the entry of Denzel Aberdeen. All of the Gators’ other departures are related to eligibility or the draft, with Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin, and Will Richard done in college basketball.

Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu are after testing for the draft while maintaining their opportunity to return to Gainesville. The Gators have added one player, though, in Princeton’s Xaivain Lee, a Top 35 transfer and the No. 7 PG in the portal per the latest from On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players after being a two-time unanimous selection as First Team All-Ivy for the Tigers.
