Jac Caglianone is back it again. Nobody is surprised.

The left-handed pitcher went yard in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead over UConn in an elimination game at the Gainesville Regional. The home run is Caglianone’s 30th of the year, tying him for the most in the nation.

The throw was UConn pitcher Zach Fogell’s first of the game after Garrett Coe had to leave the contest after being hit by a line drive.

Caglianone followed up the devastating home run with another in the eighth inning, adding insult to injury. This one was a two-run homer, flying over the scoreboard in right field. Just like that, Caglianone had the most home runs in the NCAA. Moreover, only one player ever had more home runs than him in a season.

A rising star

As only a sophomore, Caglianone is a superstar. The 6-foot-5 Florida native was named to the 2022 SEC All-Tournament Team and NCAA Gainesville Regional All-Tournament Team last year.

However, if it isn’t already obvious, Caglianone has been even better this season. Caglianone is batting .340 this season with 78 RBIs, the 11th most in the country. On the mound, Caglianone is equally dangerous.

Double-edged sword

The Gators are 12-4 this season when Caglianone is pitching. The talented prospect has already tallied 81 strikeouts, as well. To pile on, Caglianone isn’t scared to have a little fun.

Earlier this season, Caglianone went viral for mocking an umpire. The umpire ejected one of the leftie’s teammates earlier in the game for celebrating. Thus, when Caglianone swatted a monsterous grand slam over the fence later in the game, he walked stiffer than a robot around the bases.

All eyes are on him. Future Stars Series has Caglianone listed as the No. 1 pick in its 2024 MLB mock draft. The budding star helped carry his team to become the 2023 SEC regular season champions. Now, watch for yourself as Florida chases a different kind of championship and attempts to send UConn packing on the SEC Network.
