Florida players discuss how they mentally prepare for second game vs. Oklahoma
On Monday, the Florida Gators accomplished a feat that no other team in softball has been able to pull off since 2022. Defeating three-time reigning national champion Oklahoma 9-3 in the Women’s College World Series to snap a 20-game NCAA Tournament win streak for the Sooners.
The Gators will now face off with Oklahoma once again on Tuesday in an elimination game, with the winner advancing to a three-game Championship Final series against Texas for all the marbles. And following Monday’s win, a pair of Florida players spoke about the win and what it will take to defeat the Sooners once again.

“We were really free,” outfielder Kendra Falby said. “I think we were more mad at the fact that it kept raining. We just wanted to get the game going. I think the rain frustrated us more than fact we were playing Oklahoma.
“This was the calmest I’ve seen the team today. Everyone was free, having fun with it. Going out there and being fearless. We’re just going to keep doing that.”
Falby helped ignite Florida’s offense in a major way, providing a huge spark with an inside-the-park home run in the second inning that represented just the third of its kind in Women’s College World Series history. As the Gators would do some serious offensive damage with 10 hits, nine runs, and four homers on the day.

“We’re competitors. We love to play, get after it,” shortstop Skylar Wallace said. “We know we have 21 outs we get to play with. We’re going to put all of it on the line and play Gator softball.”
Wallace played her part in the Gator’s win as well, responsible for two of the team’s four home runs on the day with 3 RBIs for the three-time NFCA All-America and the reigning SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player. Who like her teammates is very much looking forward to another shot at the Sooners in a highly anticipated elimination game on Tuesday.
“The fact we get to wake up one more day and put this uniform on, we have a lot of pride with that. We ran with that and have it to our advantage,” Wallace concluded.
Florida and Oklahoma square off in a winner-take-all World Series seminal matchup at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in a game airing on ESPN.
