One of the greatest players in Florida history had their career come to an end Wednesday night as Jac Caglianone and the Gators were eliminated by Texas A&M at the College World Series.

Caglianone ended the 2024 season with an incredible .419 batting average, 35 home runs and 72 RBIs. He had a .544 on-base percentage and was also 5-2 on the mound, while making 16 starts.

The junior, who is expected to be one of the top picks in the upcoming MLB Draft, spoke with Daren Stoltzfus following the loss and revealed his emotions after playing the last baseball game of his college career.

“It’s tough. I gave all I had to this program. I just can’t thank this coaching staff enough for what they’ve done for me,” Jac Caglianone said. “It’s tough to talk right now, I’m not going to lie to you. I dread the day that I had to take this jersey off for the last time, and I guess it’s tonight. And I guess, you know, mentally I just wasn’t ready for it. But that’s kind of just how life goes.”

Earlier Wednesday, in a win over Kentucky, Caglianone drilled his 35th home run of the season and the 75th of his career, setting a new Florida school record for home runs in a career. He reached base in 52 straight games to close out his time at Florida.

The two-way star said that the Gators entered Wednesday’s action just wanting to have fun, no matter what happened.

“I mean, just not taking anything for granted. We didn’t know how much time we had left,” Caglianone said. “Either way you look at it, we were done after this – whether that be holding a trophy or not. So yea, just trying to enjoy whatever time I had left.”

Jac Caglianone did not finish off this year’s run with a national title, but he did play in Omaha each of the past two seasons. He will cherish the memories he made at the College World Series for years to come.

“Everything,” Caglianone answered when asked what stands out about playing in Omaha. “I mean that’s why you play for Florida. We come here more often times than not with Sully. I couldn’t ask for a better career. I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys to share it with.”

Florida was considered a bubble team ahead of the NCAA Tournament, before going on to win the Stillwater Regional and Clemson Super Regional. The Gators finished the year with a 36-30 record.
