Major Wright previews 'Swamp Kings' documentary on 2006-09 Florida Gators
The upcoming Florida Gators documentary Swamp Kings will feature quite the story about the 2006-09 football teams, according to Major Wright.
The former Florida defensive back is a major interview subject within the film and he described the teams each year as one that came together. In fact, they were one of the best teams to ever do it according to Wright.
Wright joined Sirius XM SEC Radio to pump up the upcoming documentary.
“My hope is that everybody can see how we all came together with one goal, one mission and that was to become a national champion,” Wright said. “And the things that it took to get there, you know, how we held each other accountable. The discipline. People didn’t understand that we disciplined each other. Like we had a lot of battles against each other.
“If we didn’t see something right, if this didn’t go the way that we didn’t want it, like us as a team, we handle a lot of discipline amongst ourselves.”
Despite the off-the-field controversies surrounding some of the players, as will expectedly be detailed in the documentary, Wright maintained those Florida teams looked out for another.
It was one of the winningest stretches in modern college football.
“We had a team that held each other accountable,” Wright said. “No matter what. That’s what I want everybody to really get from this documentary, that we all came from different backgrounds, different ethnicities, we all came together and became one of the arguably one of the best teams to ever do it.

“You know, so that’s what I want people to get from it and see how we did it, and how we held each other accountable, and what we did, to put each other in situations to be held accountable with each other.”
The Gators rose to new heights under coach Urban Meyer, who took over the program in 2005. By 2006 Florida had claimed its second ever national championship, and that was just the beginning.
After the national championship, star quarterback Tim Tebow took over and went on to one of the most successful careers in school history. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2007, then guided the team to a second national championship in 2008.
The 2009 season featured an unbeaten regular season, but the start of the dynasty collapsing occurred after that when star defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested for falling asleep behind the wheel after drinking just ahead of the 2009 SEC Championship Game. He was suspended for the game, Alabama won and the Nick Saban dynasty was off and running in earnest.
