Florida started practice on Wednesday, but it didn’t take long for an injury scare. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall limped off the field at one point — but ended up coming back.

Pearsall appeared to suffer a left foot injury and limped away, according to The Gainesville Sun’s Edgar Thompson. However, he came back and appeared to be alright, putting together a strong showing during the 15-minute viewing session.

Pearsall was a big part of the new group in Billy Napier’s first season at the helm. He came to the Gators via the transfer portal after a big year in 2021 for Arizona State, finishing with a career-high 580 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Now, he’s poised to be a top target for Anthony Richardson and the Gators as Napier gets set for his first season in Gainesville after leaving Louisiana. Florida kicks off the season Sept. 3 with a primetime showdown against Utah on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Florida coach Billy Napier: ‘Gray area is the enemy’

Florida first-year head coach Billy Napier is trying to not only putting together a winning team in the SEC, but establishing a new culture at a Gators program that had their first seven-loss season since 2017. Napier spoke Tuesday about the keys to doing so, and how he’s been changing things in Gainesville.

“You know it all matters,” Napier said. “I think the key is that you provide structure and routine, that you define expectations for the players, and there are some detailed things that we ask them to do and they do matter. But the most important part of those little, detailed things we ask them to do is they have to make a decision to do it, if that makes sense. So it’s an opportunity to say yes to the expectations and the standards and for everyone to buy into the team concept.”

Napier also spoke on his philosophy on building a successful program, and how his team understanding what they bring to the table individually can help the team as a whole moving forward.
