The Gators decided to enter the Transfer Portal following Florida’s run in Omaha at the College World Series. After going 13-17 in SEC play to end the season, Florida was able to go on a run in the NCAA Tournament, making it all the way to Omaha. There, the Gators managed to win two games but had two losses to Texas A&M to eliminate them.

Blake Brookins played in seven games this season for Florida, with his most recent appearance coming on May 4th against Tennessee. In those seven games, he had six at-bats but did not record a hit. He walked once and struck out twice. That came after being ranked as the No. 38 outfielder and No. 210 overall player nationally by Perfect Game out of high school.

Among the pitchers to enter the portal, Alex Philpott had the most experience in his freshman season. He pitched 30 innings but only made one appearance in the months of May and June. That was two scoreless innings against Kentucky in the College World Series.

For the season, Philpott had an ERA of 6.90 with 28 strikeouts. He also walked 16 and gave up 31 hits. Of his 14 appearances, three were starts. Coming out of high school, he was seen as a potential two-way player and Perfect Game ranked him as the No. 37 player overall in the state of Florida.

The other three pitchers, Gomberg, Witmer, and Satin combined to pitch 12.1 total innings on the season. Most of that came early in the season, with only Satin pitching at all in the months of May and June for Florida.

Gomberg struggled in his one inning all season. That came against Columbia and saw him allow two runs while walking three batters for an 18.00 ERA. He had been the No. 9 ranked left-handed pitcher in the state by Perfect Game.

In four appearances for Witmer, he threw 2.1 total innings. No runs scored against him but he did walk three batters and allow two hits. Another highly rated prospect, he was the No. 7 right-handed pitching prospect in Florida, according to Perfect Game, coming out of high school.

For his part, Satin made 10 appearances and had an ERA of 4.00 in nine innings. He had issues with consistency and control at times, walking 12 while striking out eight on the season. Satin came to Florida as the No. 15 left-handed pitcher in Florida out of high school.

Now, head coach Kevin O’Sullivan will need to find a way to replace all of that production and depth that these freshmen provided to Florida’s roster.
