Four-Star CB Dijon Johnson commits to Florida

Four-star cornerback Dijon Johnson of Tampa (Fla.) Wharton High announced his commitment to Florida Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot-1, 190 pounder chose the Gators over USC and Miami, and was formerly committed to Ohio State.

Johnson on why he chose Florida

“I like that they play multiple cornerbacks,” Johnson said. “The people in the building there, I like what coach Napier is building. The atmosphere is crazy, I definitely saw myself playing in that stadium. I am definitely going to help build this class coming in.”

What Florida being DBU means to Johnson

“They have produced a lot of great ones, and I see myself being the next one there,” Johnson said. “I have the size and length, plus being developed by one of the best cornerback coaches and what he has done in the past definitely stands out to me.”

The Sunshine State corner joins coach Napier and the Gators’ Top 10 class in the 2023 team rankings. He is accompanied by Kelby Collins, Aidan Mizell, and others.

Dijon Johnson Scouting Summary

“One of the more physically-imposing top cornerbacks in the 2023 cycle, measuring at 6-foot-1, 187 pounds with a wing-span over 6-foot-4,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Pairs the high-end speed and length with good straight-line speed, running an electronically-timed 4.58 second 40-yard dash prior to his senior season. A fluid mover with a smooth and coordinated back pedal. Has shown the ability to transition from his backpedal and flip his hips in downfield coverage. Shows some signs of being a risk-taker at the high school level, jumping passes. Looks like a pure cornerback as opposed to some of the other big defensive backs in the cycle.”

Johnson ranks as the No. 101 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts all four major recruiting services. He also tabs in as the No. 10 cornerback and the No. 22 player in the state of Florida.
