Florida Gators defensive lineman Gervon Dexter met with the media. There, he explained why playing for Florida is so important to him.

“It means a lot to me,” Gervon Dexter said. “That was one of the biggest reasons why I’m here. Just to represent the state of Florida. Just me being here–being from Polk County–it just meant a lot to me to be able to come here. It means a lot to me to wear that logo every Saturday. I feel like, as a recruit or as a player, why not stay in the state of Florida and get to represent where you’re from and what it means for you to play in Florida? So, I feel like that’s been a huge big reason why I’m here today.”

Gervon Dexter is a former five-star recruit from the Class of 2020. A Lake Wales, Florida native, Dexter committed to play for the Gators in 2018. In 2021, Dexter had 50 total tackles, 20 of which were solo tackles. He also had 2.5 sacks.

In 2022, Billy Napier and the Florida Gators are going to need veterans like Gervon Dexter to step into leadership roles. In the ever more competitive SEC East, he’ll also need to continue to improve physically, helping Florida to win games on the field.

Gervon Dexter highlighted changes under Billy Napier

2022 represents a changing of the guard at Florida, as Billy Napier takes over for Dan Mullen. With that have come several changes within the program, a couple of which were highlighted by Gervon Dexter.

“Huge, huge discipline. Just, you’re going to see a family out there. It won’t be an individual, this, or that. It will be all the guys going the same way. That will be the biggest thing out there,” explained Gervon Dexter.
