On Monday, Florida’s Jac Caglianone etched his name in the history books again. In the top of the second inning of Florida’s elimination game against NC State in the College World Series, Caglianone drilled a three-run homer toward right field to give Florida a 4-1 lead.

The home run was Caglianone’s 74th career home run, tying Florida’s career record previously set by Matt LaPorta. Moreover, the home run was Caglianone’s 34th this season, eclipsing the program’s prior single-season record.

In Florida’s 3-2 loss to Texas A&M in the opening round of the CWS, Jac Caglianone recorded two hits but failed to find a home run. It didn’t take him long to break the seal on Monday afternoon. Last week, Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan raved about his highly-touted star.

“It’s easy to sit back and be in awe of his offensive numbers and the walks-to-strikeout ratio and how he has advanced on the mound,” O’Sullivan said. “But the thing I keep saying over and over is how he’s been able to submerse himself into the team and not his own personal success, which has really allowed him to have the season he’s had.

“Tremendous leader. He’s one of the most likable guys in the locker room. He’s just — he’s stayed the course. Obviously, we wouldn’t be here without him.”
