Ohio State five-star WR commit Jeremiah Smith visits Florida
Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Jeremiah Smith may be committed to Ohio State, but that isn’t stopping him from taking recruiting visits.
After stopping at Georgia last weekend, Smith is visiting Florida on Thursday, and he isn’t alone. Alongside the nation’s top receiver is Florida 4-star QB commit DJ Lagway, who pledged to the Gators earlier this year.
The two were even posing together in Gators gear on Lagway’s Instagram Live.
Smith committed to the Buckeyes in December over offers from Florida, Miami, Georgia and a host of other programs. But they haven’t given up recruiting him.
Other schools in contact as well with Jeremiah Smith
In addition to Florida and Georgia, Florida State is among the schools looking to flip the top recruiting from the Sunshine State this cycle. The Gators recently hired a new receivers coach, so most of Smith’s contact has been with head coach Billy Napier, but this trip will be his first chance to meet new receivers coach Billy Gonzales.
As it stands now though, it will be very hard for any program to pull him away from the one in Columbus.
“I’m locked in but keeping my options open because you never know what could happen,” Smith said of his current status. “A coach can get fired, coaches change jobs, stuff like that, so I just want to make sure that if Coach Hartline and Coach Day are there, I’m good.”

Recruiting Profile
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Smith is the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the country’s No. 1 wide receiver and the No. 1 recruit in Florida.
On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power believes Smith has the potential to be one of the best receivers to come out of Florida in the past decade.
“He’s one of the top overall receiver prospects in several cycles and, and probably the top receiver prospects from South Florida in many years,” Power said. “His combination of size and skill level with his route running and ball skills is relatively unique for a rising senior in high school. Very technical, he’s a guy who can stack corners off the line and makes big time plays at the catch point.”
Smith is the cousin of NFL quarterback Geno Smith, who starred at West Virginia in his college career.
