Kevin O'Sullivan reveals how he predicted Ty Evans going off in the College World Series finals
Ty Evans is stunning the nation with every at-bat. Nonetheless, Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan isn’t surprised.
“I just felt like his BP was just getting better and better, and he was staying in the middle of the field,” O’Sullivan said. “Our coaches have worked awfully hard, and [Evans] is a really hard worker and I just kind of felt like with his makeup and the way his swing was starting to come around, we felt like he had a chance to do something special out here.”
Evans has done just that. The sophomore Gator has two home runs in Game 2 of the College World Series finals against LSU, including a grand slam in the third inning to give Florida a 7-3 lead; the first-ever grand slam in the CWS Finals.
Evans has four home runs during the CWS. For reference, the budding star only recorded four dingers during the entire regular season. Evans and his fellow Gators are willing to do whatever it takes to extend their season.
“Can’t dwell on tonight. It’s in the past. We’ve been in this position before where our back’s up against the wall and we’re taking some punches and we have to throw back,” Florida catcher BT Riopelle said after Florida’s loss on Saturday. “It’s a matter of going out and attacking and playing our best baseball. If we don’t then that’s just how it rolls. We’ll do everything in our power to play our best baseball tomorrow and force a Game 3 on Monday.”

The path to the championship game is clear
Evans is certainly playing his best ball today. The Florida native is batting .227 this season while boasting 37 RBI. O’Sullivan is enjoying every moment he sees his young star improve.
“Ty [Evans] has really gotten hot for us down the stretch here,” Johnson said last week.
Evans isn’t the only one who knows how to slap a baseball over the fence for the Gators. Florida entered Sunday’s contest with 137 home runs, the third-most in the nation and trailing only LSU and Florida Gulf Coast.
The Gators aren’t out of the woods yet but it’s certainly trending the right way. As of this report, UF leads 8-3 in the top of the sixth inning. The Gators must win this contest to force a Game 3 against the Tigers. LSU will have just a few more innings to bring home the title. The game is currently being broadcast on ESPN.
