Northern Illinois EDGE transfer George Gumbs commits to Florida

Florida has landed a commitment from Northern Illinois EDGE transfer George Gumbs, Gumbs announced on his Twitter account on Thursday evening.

The talented edge rusher had previously committed to Cincinnati.

Gumbs spent the past three seasons suiting up for the Huskies, though he didn’t have much productivity during his first two seasons. His third was a different story.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2023, Gumbs recorded 32 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

He should provide some instant firepower off the edge for the Gators, who lost leading pass-rusher Princely Umanmielen to Ole Miss this offseason via the portal.

Prior to enrolling at Northern Illinois, George Gumbs was a three-star prospect and the No. 1,528 overall recruit in the 2021 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

He also checked in as the No. 205 wide receiver in the class and the No. 41 overall player from the state of Illinois, hailing from Chicago (IL) Simeon.
