After a 70-52 comeback win over FCS Samford, who broke the history books against a lackluster Florida defense, head coach Dan Mullen celebrated the victory and danced in the locker room. Across the board, from media to fans, the postgame actions were received very poorly.

According to ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum, Dan Mullen has become a laughingstock.

“I think if it ended and Dan Mullen said, ‘listen, our job is to come and try to win a game, but we’re not pleased with what we did’ and ‘we’re gonna go back to the drawing board tomorrow and try to correct these,’ then I think I would’ve said ‘ok, there’s nothing else to say,’ Paul Finebaum explained on this week’s ESPN College Football Podcast. “But instead, he tried to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes and acted like there was something to celebrate when it was truly a disgraceful afternoon in the annals of Florida football. And I think he lost.”

Finebaum continued with an anecdote which is troubling for Dan Mullen and the Florida football program moving forward.

“I think he lost big, just perusing some of the commentary across the country last night and today,” Finebaum said. “I was on a plane coming back at the time, and everybody on the plane was laughing at Florida and laughing at Mullen. And I don’t know where he is right now. We’ve all said he’s safe but today it doesn’t feel like he’s as safe as he was. And he’s got two tricky opponents – in Missouri and Florida State – and I dare say if he loses one of those… we will be sitting here afterward wondering if he’ll be back next year.”

Dan Mullen celebrates win

Florida was a 31-point favorite entering the game, and the halftime deficit understandably caused some concern from Gators fans. In fact, Samford’s 52 points were the most an FCS team has ever scored against an SEC team.

However, after the game, Gators coach Dan Mullen provided an interesting quote on how he felt about the game.

“Calling a win disappointing is disrespectful to the game,” Mullen told reporters.

After coming away with an 18-point victory with 10 offensive touchdowns, Mullen went to the locker room, where video surfaced of him celebrating with the team. The video has been mocked and criticized in the 24 hours since it released, making Dan Mullen and the Florida program once again the laughingstock.
