Paul Finebaum explores status of Dan Mullen's job security at Florida
Paul Finebaum explored the status of Dan Mullen’s job security at Florida following their loss to LSU on Saturday. Many believed Ed Orgeron saved his job by defeating Mullen’s Gators, but it’s since been announced that Orgeron’s future was already set.
Orgeron won a national championship, but that still wasn’t enough to save his job at LSU. As for Mullen, Finebaum joined the McElroy and Cubelic Show to discuss the situation at Florida.
“Not this year, … but I think you have to honestly take a good look at Dan Mullen and quit saying the same thing – that he’s the best play caller in America, that he’s a quarterback whisperer – and look at his record. And you can take out the two Group of Five wins this year and what’s he done?” stated Finebaum. “Honestly. Yeah, he beat Vanderbilt, but other than Vanderbilt, you know, he lost to Alabama, which we don’t have to talk about anymore. But he lost to Kentucky, he lost to a bad LSU team. He’s got Georgia in two weeks.
“So if my math is correct, he’ll have four losses when we talk in two weeks. And if he does, that’s another four-loss season at a place that isn’t at Alabama’s level – because nobody is – but in the fans’ mind, they’re not far behind. Maybe a couple of years ago they were, and they felt like they were at Alabama’s level, but this is a program that I’ll tell you, long term, … will not put up with that.”
Evidently, Finebaum believes the clock could be ticking on Mullen and his time at Florida.

McElroy on Mullen: ‘It’s getting ugly there in Gainesville’
Furthermore, Greg McElroy agrees with Finebaum and his comments on Mullen. Following a rough loss against LSU, the former Alabama quarterback believes the situation is getting close to its boiling point.
“I think this year’s performances have left a lot to be desired. I thought last weekend’s performance was atrocious. They had absolutely no business losing that game,” said McElroy. “So I don’t know if I’m ready to put him in a position of put up or shut up, (but) it’s getting ugly there in Gainesville.”
Things don’t get any easier for Mullen, as the Gators play the Georgia Bulldogs following their bye week this weekend. Afterwards their schedule lightens up, but having three losses at this point in the season is not where Florida wanted to be.
Paul Finebaum may not be out of Dan Mullen just yet, but it’s evident that the Florida coach needs to pick up the pace as he attempts to return Florida to glory.
