The first season at Florida for Micah Handlogten did not end positively at all with what took place in Nashville. Now, those unfortunate circumstances could be costing him all of next year long before the season ever tips off.

Per CBS Sports’ John Rothstein, who spoke with Todd Golden, Handlogten “is likely to redshirt” next season. That means his significant injury in the finals of the SEC Tournament could already be ending his junior year in Gainesville after it ended his sophomore season.

Handlogten transferred to Florida after his one campaign at Marshall where he was Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. He came in as one of six transfers that made up the No. 4 portal class. That rating was per On3’s 2023 College Basketball Team Transfer Portal Rankings. It featured four key contributors in Handlogten, Walter Clayton Jr. (Iona), Tyrese Samuel (Seton Hall), and Zyon Pullin (UC Riverside). They came in along with Julian Rishwain (San Francisco) and EJ Jarvis (Yale), who stepped away from basketball before the season.

In 33 games as a starter, he averaged 5.3 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 62.2% from the field. He paired nicely with Samuel down low for the team in the frontcourt as their two leading rebounders who combined for 14.3 boards a game, 8.3 being on defense while 6.1 came on the offensive glass.

However, early on during Florida’s appearance in the SEC Championship, Handlogten’s season ended after a leg fracture that silenced the crowd at the conference tournament. He needed a stretcher to leave the floor and underwent a surgery later on that day.

Handlogten would then travel with the team to Indianapolis for the NCAA Tournament. That lasted one game after No. 11 Colorado hit a game-winner to secure a 102-100 victory over No. 7 Florida. He obviously did not play, though, and now may miss all of next season based on this report.

Thoughts and well wishes have gone to Handlogten since the incident considering how upsetting of an end it was to his season. Still, it appears to be something that will now keep him off the court for much longer based on this latest update via Golden.

FAU transfer Alijah Martin officially signs with Florida Gators

Florida Atlantic fifth-year grad transfer guard Alijah Martin has officially signed with Florida, the school announced Monday.

He’s the third member of UF’s 2024 transfer class. Martin joins forward Sam Alexis and center Rueben Chinyelu in reloading Florida’s roster via the portal.

Martin was a key member of FAU’s 2023 Final Four team. He totaled 1,476 career points (11.9 per game), 616 rebounds (5.0), and 242 three-point field goals (2.0) over four seasons in Boca Raton. He earned all-conference honors in each of the past three seasons, averaging better than 13 points every year.

Martin committed to the Gators over Ole Miss after taking official visits to both programs in April.

“We are elated to add Alijah to our program for the 2024-25 season,” Todd Golden said. “Alijah has had great success throughout his career at FAU on both a personal and team level. He played a huge role in getting FAU to the Final Four two years ago and earning another tournament appearance this past season. He’s been incredibly consistent as both a scorer and defender and will add even more explosiveness to our group. He will step onto our campus as a college graduate and will provide experience and leadership for the program.”

Martin is the nation’s No. 8 combo guard and No. 63 overall transfer in the On3 Industry Rankings.
