Report: Steve Spurrier promised Florida players to pay fine if fans stormed field after LSU upset
The Florida Gators had an impressive upset win over the LSU Tigers on Saturday night, pushing their record to 5-5 overall on the 2024 campaign. To give Florida a little extra motivation heading into the rivalry game, Gators legend Steve Spurrier said publicly that he would pay the fine for fans storming the field, according to Scott Rabalais of The Advocate.
It was one of the biggest wins of the Napier era in Gainesville, but Spurrier will be able to keep his money. Since there was no field storming on Saturday evening in The Swamp.
The Gators have battled through a number of obstacles this season, with rumors swirling around Billy Napier’s job at one point, to dealing with several different critical injuries. They’ve also faced one of the more difficult schedules in the nation.
Florida freshman phenom DJ Lagway completed 13 of his 26 passes for 226 yards, while tossing in a touchdown with no interceptions. Gators running back Jaden Baugh also finished with 65 rushing yards and a touchdown on just six carries.

Florida receiver Elijhah Badger hauled in six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown. While it might not be the flashiest record, the Gators have done pretty well to get themselves to 5-5 this season, all things considered. Especially with their brutal schedule and the number of injuries they’ve sustained.
It was a big win for Florida and yet another stinging defeat for LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly. The Tigers dropped to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the SEC. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier finished completing 27 of 47 passes for 260 yards, while tossing in one touchdown with no interceptions.
