Robert Griffin III, Anthony Richardson honor Florida 5-star QB commit DJ Lagway
The hype surrounding Willis (Texas) five-star quarterback DJ Lagway has only grown since he committed to Florida on Dec. 7, 2022.
Lagway is the No. 31 player and No. 4 signal-caller in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The 6-foot-2.5, 230-pounder is also the No. 8 player in Texas.
Back in June, Lagway was one of 20 quarterbacks selected to participate in the 2023 Elite 11 Finals, a prestigious honor for the top high school gunslingers in the nation. After flashing his big arm for multiple days in Los Angeles, On3’s Charles Power selected Lagway as the QB with the most “college-ready build.”
“At 6-foot-2.5, 230 pounds, DJ Lagway was the most physically developed Elite 11 Finalist on hand,” Power wrote. “He could put pads on right now and be able to take contact on a college football field. Lagway flashed his tantalizing physical ability throughout the week. He had one of the strongest arms in attendance, as expected. Lagway had some highlight throws. His best was as good as anyone at the event.”
Over the weekend, Lagway was celebrated for his accomplishment. A pair of touted QBs joined in on the celebration, as former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III and former Florida QB and current starter for the Indianapolis Colts Anthony Richardson sent in videos to congratulate the future Gator.

I’ve got to tell you, it’s been an honor to know you and your family and watch you grow on and off the football field. … I want to say congratulations to you DJ on all your success,” Griffin said. “We know you’re not going to celebrate yourself. So we’re going to celebrate you with this trophy for you for what you’re doing man and and also what you did this summer — becoming the first ever quarterback from Willis, Texas to make it to the Elite 11 finals.”
Richardson lauded Lagway, as the former Gator knows what it takes to get to the Elite 11. He was one of eight finalists at the event in 2019.
“I want to say congrats on making it to the Elite 11 this past summer. That’s not easy and you did it man so congratulations,” Richardson said. “Also, I want to say ball out your senior year, keep being you, keep having fun. Enjoy it, because time is going to keep rolling real fast. Sooner or later, you’re going to be in college balling out. Keep being you, keep having fun, keep being a great QB man. Go Gators.”
Lagway has an On3 NIL Valuation of $555K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
