5-star OT Samson Okunlola takes official visit to Florida

Brockton (Mass.) Thayer Academy five-star offensive tackle Samson Okunlola was in Gainesville this weekend for his official visit to Florida. On Friday night, he sat in a Lamborghini at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

While visiting the Gators, he spent time in their facilities and tried on Florida uniforms. So far, Okunlola has visited Florida four times.

Okunlola is the No. 16 overall recruit and the No. 3 offensive tackle in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Massachusetts. 

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound prospect is announcing his commitment on Dec. 15. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Miami has the lead for Okunlola’s commitment at 65.5%, while Florida holds the next-best odds at 30.9%.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college. 

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

Okunlola has an On3 NIL Valuation of $223K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

“Aggressive offensive lineman with nimble movement skills and a positive athletic profile. Has plus length for the position at 6-foot-5, 295 pounds with a 6-foot-10.5 wing-span. Has shown good short area quickness in the camp setting. Also spends time as a wrestler and thrower in the shot put. Plays both ways at his high school as an offensive tackle and defensive lineman. Has some dominant flashes, particularly as a run blocker. Moves well to the second level, locating and blowing up linebackers on contact. 

“Finishes blocks at a high rate and works to plant defenders into the turf. Shows similar emphatic finishing ability on defense, where he suplexes ball carriers at times. Plays low and understands leverage. Will need to continue developing his pass set technique. Could also stand to improve his ankle flexion a bit. Faces subpar competition and may need some time to adjust to the uptick in talent level once in college.”
