As Florida looks for their next head coach, Lane Kiffin is popping up as a popular choice. The Ole Miss coach is one of the most exciting options, as he would bring a new swagger to the Gators.

However, there’s one hurdle Florida would have to clear in hiring Kiffin, according to Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated.

“Kiffin and athletic director Scott Stricklin are an oil-and-water mix,” wrote Forde. “If Stricklin is not beholden to booster pressure, this would seem to be a tough sell.

“Florida’s last two head coaches have been high-maintenance guys with a propensity to say something cringe-worthy. Does the school really want a third straight like that?”

While Kiffin has enjoyed success this season, he’s not without his question marks. His reputation proceeds him — while you’ll get an exciting offense and a never-boring coach, you’re also getting a coach who isn’t afraid to show his comedic side.

From popcorn comments before a loss to Alabama to being one of the most entertaining follows on Twitter, Kiffin doesn’t bite his tongue. Still, his results this season speak louder than anything.

Lane Kiffin: A name to watch at multiple schools

The college football carousel is beginning to heat up, as Florida became the latest school open on Sunday. Some of the top jobs in the country are available at the moment as well, LSU and USC still looking for their next leader.

When discussing who would be a good fit in certain places, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum brought up Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. He said Kiffin’s situation is something to monitor and could be the hire for two schools.

“I think Lane [Kiffin] is a name to watch very closely right now,” Finebaum said. “Florida, Miami, I think those are two very likely possibilities.”

Maimi has yet to fire Manny Diaz, but athletic director Blake James was the first AD the Hurricanes ever let go. The writing seems to be on the wall for Diaz, who can be 7-5 at best during his third season in charge.

Going to the state of Florida would not be an unfamiliar territory for Kiffin, though. After being Alabama’s offensive coordinator, he left Tuscaloosa to be the head coach at FAU.

Kiffin still has to finish out his season with Ole Miss before considering another job. He will have a rivalry game against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, plus a potential New Year’s Six Bowl game.
