Tim Tebow on not playing Auburn in 2024: I was 0-2, I'm okay not seeing them

There were a lot of surprises in the 2024 SEC college football schedule reveal on Wednesday. One of the biggest ones for the Florida Gators was the Auburn Tigers not being a part of their schedule. While some, like former Gator wide receiver turned SEC Network analyst Chris Doering were bummed out about not being able to face off against the Tigers, another former player who called Gainesville, FL, home was at least jokingly a-okay with it.

Heisman trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow, had no problem with Auburn not being on the 2024 schedule. And it had a lot to do with his history facing off against the Tigers.

“I was 0-2 against Auburn, so I’m OK not seeing them on the schedule. I think the SEC as a whole did a really good job of creating some new, exciting games, but also keeping the tradition,” said Tebow. “Because what makes college so special is the tradition of the rivalries, and there’s still so many of those in play that are going to get fans so much amazing memories and moments that they can watch their teams against their rivals, and I’m excited about it. I look at our [Florida’s] schedule in 2024, and I think, ‘Dang, we got all the big ones, and we get Texas?’ And I know so many fans around the SEC are looking at the exact same thing.”

Unlike Tebow, Doering was successful playing against Auburn during his four-year career at Florida from 1992-1995. And although the Gators will not get an opportunity to take down their SEC West foe, they will get the opportunity to introduce the Texas Longhorns into the SEC properly in their inaugural year in the conference.

Tim Tebow says Texas, Oklahoma additions are ‘great for the SEC’ and the programs

While Tebow was meh on Auburn, the exact opposite could be said about his feelings towards Texas and Oklahoma coming to the SEC. The two schools are joining a year earlier than expected, but there’s plenty of buzz about what they’ll bring to the league as it moves to 16 teams.

Tebow especially pointed to how both sides — the SEC and the programs — will benefit from the move. Considering the high profiles of the conference and the schools, he said it’s a win-win for everyone, especially since the SEC has solidified itself atop college football.

“I’m just so excited,” Tebow said. “I think it’s great for the SEC. I think, overall, it’s great for Texas and it’s great for Oklahoma. Fantastic brands. People know their brands, nationwide. Shoot, I’ve been in a lot of other countries and I see the Longhorns so many places and OU so many places.
