Todd Golden breaks down Florida's issues with turnovers
The Florida Gators dropped a winnable SEC game against Texas A&M 66-63 in large part due to turnovers. Head coach Todd Golden broke down the issues with the Gators and how it went back to fundamentals.
Florida committed 20 total turnovers in the game that was decided by just three points, at home no less. On the final stat line, Texas A&M had just 10 turnovers, half of the Gators’ total.
Golden praised Trey Bonham for leading the scoring charge, especially as Florida outscored the Aggies in the second half, but did not need the careless turnovers.
“We didn’t do a good job handling what I would call their baseline double on the post,” Golden said. “We talked about it in practice, talked about our walkthrough. Thought we had a good plan in place to combat it. And at halftime, you know, watching a little bit of the first half on some clips, we weren’t doing what we were supposed to do. And so we got after that a little bit, made sure we understood exactly what our responsibilities were.
“I thought we handled that double, a lot better in the second half, whether it was drawing fouls, or getting open threes off that. And the turnovers. You know, Trey (Bonham) had a really good game in terms of scoring the basketball. But I think we would all like to have some of those plays back in the second half where he made some careless passes in the turnovers.”
