Florida Gators head coach Todd Golden explained why he chose to use Myreon Jones and Kyle Lofton together.

It was after the win against Missouri that Golden was asked about this decision to play the two guards with one another.

“As you guys are well aware, Myreon’s really been playing well over the past, really since Christmas, and he just doesn’t turnover the ball. He’s really solid with it. Five assists, one turnover tonight,” Todd Golden said.

“Felt like having those kinds of veteran guys out there would calm us down and those two, along with Colin [Castleton] did a really good job handling their pressure, but a lot of other guys stepped up and made big shots. Riley [Kugel] in the first half kept us in it. You know, Will [Richard] obviously hit four threes, some were huge to answer some of their runs.”

Next up for Florida is a trip to Texas A&M. The Gators and the Aggies already met this season, with Texas A&M winning a close game at Florida.

“But, again, we felt like if we could take care of the ball against them then we would find a way to make shots and we did in the second half.”

Todd Golden on overcoming turnover issues

In Florida’s last game, the Gators beat the Missouri Tigers. They were able to do this despite 19 turnovers on the night. After the game, Todd Golden explained how Florida overcame turnover issues.

“Probably a little lucky to be honest. But in a way it’s probably, you know, some of them were dead ball turnovers so we could go set our defense up. But our guys are tough and they don’t. They don’t quit. We’ve gotten so much better at playing in finishing positions, you know, over the course of the year,” Golden said.

“And again, like we’re, we have developed into one of the best. probably top 10-15 defenses right now. You know, for us, it’s a great backbone to have in your program to be a great defensive team. Like tonight when you make shots, you’re going to give yourself a great chance to win more often.”
