Florida WR Trent Whittemore announces entry into NCAA transfer portal
Florida has bounced back nicely following a loss to Georgia and the dismissal of star pass-rusher Brenton Cox, winning two straight to earn bowl eligibility. But the attrition for the Gators is likely to continue over the coming weeks and, on Monday evening, receiver Trent Whittemore announced he’s entered the transfer portal.
Whittemore announced the news on his Twitter account, tweeting a graphic.
“I’ve been a Gator for as long as I can remember. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played for the University of Florida and earned my degree,” Whittemore wrote. “Thanks to Coach (Jim) McElwain, Coach (Dan) Mullen, and Coach (Billy) Napier for their parts in my journey. A special thanks to Coach (Billy) Gonzales, Coach [Keary Colbert], and Coach (Nick) Savage for all they poured into me. Most of all I appreciate the relationships built and time spent with my teammates. It’s the friendships and memories that I will treasure most.
“With that being said, I have now entered the transfer portal as a graduate student.”
Whittemore battled injuries during his time at Florida, including a punctured lung at one point.
He logged 29 catches for 338 yards and two touchdowns during the 2020-21 seasons under former coach Dan Mullen, but he appeared to fall out of favor in terms of usage under first-year coach Billy Napier. Whittemore had recorded just four catches for 87 yards in 2022.

A Gainesville native, Whittemore’s departure comes just weeks after his brother, Creed Whittemore, decommitted from the Gators.
