After his brother jokingly suggested on Twitter that he might need to go play for Deion Sanders following Colorado‘s stunning 45-42 win over No. 17 TCU, Florida running back Trevor Etienne responded in kind.

Etienne quote tweeted his brother with the following line, which will reassure Florida fans.

“We finna shake back just wait…” Etienne wrote, tagging his tweet with five Gator emojis and orange and blue hearts.

Florida suffered a season-opening loss to Utah in disappointing fashion, unable to finish drives in the red zone and prone to costly mistakes at key junctures of the game. The Utes won 24-11.

Worse, Florida couldn’t seem to find ways to get two of its top playmakers involved behind a shaky offensive line.

Neither Etienne nor fellow running back Montrell Johnson were heavily involved in the game, as Utah clogged up the rushing lanes in the trenches. Etienne finished with just seven carries for 25 yards, while catching four passes for 12 yards in the loss.

That was a far cry from what Etienne gave the Gators as a true freshman in 2022.

During his first season in the Florida backfield, Etienne logged 118 carries for 719 yards, averaging an impressive 6.1 yards per carry. he scored six times on the ground. Etienne also has emerging pass-catching ability; he caught nine passes for 66 yards as a freshman.

Trevor Etienne will definitely get his looks from the Gators this season, as his clapback to his brother almost certainly alludes to.

Billy Napier opens up on rallying the team

With Florida losing the season opener, the Gators will need to rally in a hurry. A difficult SEC slate, one of the nation’s toughest, actually, looms.

Coach Billy Napier was asked how he would get the team back on track, especially with a tough SEC slate coming this season.

“I feel like we’re in the fight and we made tons of mistakes,” Napier said. “There’s gonna be a ton of teachable moments for a lot of young players, a lot of new players on our team relative to, the first thing I told the team after the game was execution wins. Just call it like, it’s simple. And I think that you know, if we do what we’re supposed to do at times out, it’s a lot more competitive game. You know, I think we contributed to that. But I think Utah contributed to that as well.”

In other words, we need to execute better.

Florida will return to action next week against McNeese, looking to get Etienne and the season back on track.
