Jennings (La.) four-star running back Trevor Etienne is exactly the type of player Florida needed.

The Gators entered Saturday with a small class of only 10 recruits and zero offensive skill players. But following Etienne’s commitment to Florida right before the start of the All-American Bowl, Florida moved from No. 30 to No. 25 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.

The defense has dominated Florida’s commitments so far, especially since Billy Napier was hired after the dismissal of Dan Mullen. The team has 11 high school commits, and six of the pledges are on the defensive side of the ball.

Fort Pierce (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star safety Kamari Wilson and Mobile (Ala.) Faith Academy four-star linebacker Shemar James are the two highest rated recruits and they lead the class.

Of the four offensive commits in the class, three are offensive lineman and the other is Etienne.

The Gators do have a transfer signee in Ohio State quarterback Jack Miller, who was a four-star prospect out of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral in the 2020.

Trevor Etienne chose Florida over LSU and Clemson, which is where his older brother and current Jacksonville Jaguar running back Travis Etienne played.

But instead of following in his brother’s path, Trevor Etienne decided to make his own journey.

“It’s something new,” Etienne said. “I wanted to see myself doing something new and doing something I haven’t experienced. My brother went to Clemson. I’ve been to LSU a couple of times. I’ve never really been to Florida. That’s something I want to experience.”
