Florida‘s over/under win total has been set at 7.5 heading into the 2025 college football season, according to BetMGM. Former Gators head coach Urban Meyer believes Billy Napier’s squad will surpass this expected finish by the end of the regular season.

Meyer pointed toward last season as evidence of his claim. After beginning the season with a 4-5 record, they won their last four games including wins over ranked opponents such as LSU and Ole Miss before finishing the year with a Gasparilla Bowl win against Tulane.

“The book was written on Florida last year,” Meyer told co-host Rob Stone on the Triple Option Podcast. “It was over. They lost early — lost bad early. … First of all, the quarterback (DJ Lagway) was young, and he’s coming back, obviously, but regardless, that team fought their ass off, man.

“To beat Ole Miss and to beat LSU down the stretch. Obviously, they beat Florida State. I still have so many friends involved in Florida, and the writing was on the wall. And somehow, Coach Napier, the staff and the leaders on that team ignored the noise and went out and played their best football at the end of the season. I think there’s something there right now.”

Meyer went through Florida’s upcoming 2025 schedule and rattled off his predictions for each games. He gave Florida clear-cut victories over six teams, and gave four other matchups half of a win, meaning the game could go either way.

The Gators begin their season against Long Island and South Florida — both of which Meyer placed in the win column. They’ll follow that up at LSU (loss), at Miami and against Texas at home. The latter two Meyer believes could go either way. They settled on Florida being 3-2 after five games. Meyer couldn’t give Florida the decisive win over Texas A&M the following week, either.

He picked Florida to win during the matchups against Mississippi State and Kentucky, and to lose outright against Georgia. After another toss-up game against Ole Miss on the road, Meyer predicted the Gators to round out their season with consecutive victories over Tennessee and Florida State.

In total, Meyer’s prediction slots Florida at exactly eight wins counting the four half wins, or toss-up games he feels the Gators can emerge victorious from. With the Gators boasting arguably the toughest schedule in the country this fall, eight wins could be considered an impressive feat against the gauntlet they’re set to face. However, Florida will hope to eclipse that number and then some this fall, beginning with Long Island on Aug. 30.
