McKinney (Texas) four-star safety Xavier Filsaime has announced his commitment to Florida. He chose the Gators over USCOregonLSU and Georgia.

Filsaime is the No. 29 overall prospect and No. 2 safety in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 7 player in Texas.

“It was a real good vibe,” Filsaime told Donovan Keiser of Gators Online about his Florida visit on March 11. “I felt like he was getting into it with the players and making sure they really understood it. They don’t sit in meetings for more than 30 minutes. They walk through like crazy.”

“They showed a lot of love,” he added. “They made it seem like even though it was my first time coming down here after they offered me a few months ago, they showed me a lot of love.”

The 5-foot-11.5, 180-pound defensive back is the latest elite recruit to choose head coach Billy Napier and his staff. He made his decision while attending the Gators’ Orange and Blue Game.

Landing Filsaime boosts Florida’s 2024 class

Following Filsaime’s commitment, Florida’s 2024 recruiting class ranks No. 4 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 3 in the SEC. It contains seven players.

Two of the Gators’ pledges are safeties in Filsaime and Nashville (Ga.) Berrien three-star Josiah Davis. In addition to Filsaime, Florida has three other top-100 commits: Willis (Texas) four-star quarterback DJ Lagway, Atlanta (Ga.) Woodward Academy four-star linebacker Myles Graham and Largo (Fla.) four-star linebacker Adarius Hayes.

The Gators’ 2024 class is rounded out by North Palm Beach (Fla.) The Benjamin School four-star running back Chauncey Bowens and West Point (Miss.) four-star running back Kahnen Daniels. Filsaime is the third player to commit to Napier and Co. since March 27, alongside Davis and Daniels.

“… I’m trying to get the best guys in the class with me,” Lagway told On3’s Chad Simmonson March 13. “Without the players around me, I can’t do anything. I’m trying to get the best receivers, best running backs, best linemen, best linebackers, all of it. I’m really just trying to bring that success back that the fans deserve.”

Filsaime may not be the only safety heading to Gainesville soon. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Florida has a 91.5% chance to land Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star safety Jordan Pride, who decommitted from Florida State on April 12.
