3-star OT Tye Hylton commits to Florida State: 'The brotherhood at Florida State is like no other'
For Tye Hylton, “the brotherhood at Florida State is like no other.” After working through his decision in early July, he has announced his commitment to the Florida State Seminoles. He chose the Seminoles over Florida and UCF.
“I went back and forth talking with my family and around July 4, I made a list of pros and cons,” Hylton told On3. “We talked it out, we went over everything, and after that, I made the decision on Florida State.”
Hylton chose Florida State after taking four trips to Tallahassee, including an official visit in June. He also took officials to Florida, Miami and Penn State last month while also staying high on UCF.
“UCF and Florida were other schools I was high on, but Florida State was best for me,” Hylton said. “It was a really tough decision. I still can’t believe it all, I have 26 offers, I get to commit to a great university and that university is Florida State.
“…I told Coach Alex Atkins first on Thursday. I told him I wanted to keep what we have going. Then I called Coach Mike Norvell and he was even happier than Atkins. Coach Norvell was so excited and he can’t wait to guide me and lead me in Tallahassee.
Hylton said that Florida State started recruiting him after his junior season and offered him in January. Ever since, the staff in Tallahassee has focused on building relationships with the 6-foot-4.5 offensive tackle.
“At Florida State, I got close to almost the whole staff,” Hylton said. “Coach Atkins for sure, me and Coach Norvell are really tight too. Then all the other offensive line analysts too. I am close with the whole (offensive line) room. My relationships were very big.”

‘Brotherhood’ a selling point for Hylton
The list of pros and cons that Hylton mentioned incorporated much more than just the football program. Everything from family, to relationships and even the weather.
“Then my mom approves of Florida State,” Hylton said. “They are focused on my development as a person and a player and she loves the plan they have for me. She doesn’t care about the uniforms, NIL and things like that, it is about the people with her. She sees great people at Florida State that can be great mentors for me.
“…Then I like the location too. I am from up north (New York), so I love the weather. How the staff believes in me made a big impact on me too. Then there is that brotherhood there, the brotherhood at Florida State is like no other. It is so family-oriented, they do everything together as a team. Everyone is close. It is going to be great to be a part of that.”
Norvell left big impression
Hylton said he has been down to Tallahassee to watch a spring practice, and said that he believed Florida State is a program on the up and up. He had a chance to watch how the team interacts with one another and how Norvell handles his program — just one more deciding factor for the ‘Noles commit.
“Coach Norvell is like a godsend,” Hylton said. “He is a great leader, person and coach. Coach Norvell looked me in my eyes and told me he believes in me — that stayed with me. The head coach played a huge role in my journey. I can’t put it into words, there is something about him. I am so blessed to be able to play for Coach Norvell.”
