When Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star athlete Edwin Joseph thinks about Florida State, he thinks of the word “climb.”

Joseph watched the Seminoles climb this season to nine wins, to a program revival, to a level that team hasn’t reached in some years.

That’s appealing to Joseph.

“I feel like FSU is on the rise, and they’re coming no matter what,” Joseph told On3. “I just feel like I want to be part of that journey of growing and growing.”

Joseph announced his commitment Wednesday to Florida State. He chose the Seminoles over Louisville, Miami and Penn State.

The four-star athlete, who said he will likely play defensive back in Tallahassee, said he alerted coaches of his decision Monday.

“It’s been hard,” Joseph said. “That’s been the hardest decision It has not been easy at all. It really came down to the final stretch.”

What helped set the Seminoles apart was the family atmosphere at the school.

“I feel as though I’m another part of the family every time I go up there,” Joseph said. “Even when I’m home, I just feel connected through our phone calls, FaceTime, playing iMessage games. It just feels like a family away from home.”

He has built relationships with numerous coaches on the staff but said his relationship with Mike Norvell has developed significantly since Florida State offered in September.

“Me and his relationship just skyrocketed the past two months, ever since they offered,” Joseph said.

Joseph really enjoyed watching the success Norvell and the team had this season.

“It’s just been very big, just seeing them improve week by week is one of the biggest things that really came up to me and my decision,” Joseph said. “Going from Clemson week and then going to the bye week and just seeing how they finished out the season and week by week was just great.”
