4-star CB Gregory Thomas commits to Florida State: 'The program is in a great place'
Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage cornerback Gregory Thomas took an official visit to Clemson, and the Tigers gave the four-star a lot to think about, but he chose to stay home and commit to Florida State.
“Before my official visit to Florida State, I was close to committing to Clemson,” Thomas told On3. “Florida State was my third offer, and they have been recruiting me hard for almost a year, but Clemson came on and made it tough.
“On my official visit thought, I saw it and I felt it. They answered my questions, they showed me a lot about the fit and Florida State is a perfect fit.
What makes it the perfect fit?
“My old head coach (Pat Surtain) will be my position coach, I love coach Mike Norvell and his energy, Tallahassee is a great college town and it’s not far from home. They have great fans and great support too. I am half Seminole also, so that is another thing that just makes it feel right.
“The staff made me feel like a priority from the beginning, they never stopped the communication, and on Thursday, I made my final decision to commit to Florida State.”

Thomas believes in the Florida State coaching staff
Norvell took Florida State to an ACC Championship last season. He has the Seminoles back in contention for the playoffs this upcoming season. Thomas is excited about the staff leading the way in Tallahassee.
“Coach Norvell has completely turned around the program,” Thomas said. “Anyone with eyes can see that Norvell has flipped things at Florida State and he has the belief back. Not many believed in him when he came in to try and fix things, but they do now. He is a great coach, his energy never changes and he is a winner that is there for his players.
“Coach Surtain is a great coach too. I have known him since third grade and we have a great relationship. He made an impact on me when he coached me in high school, me and my dad have had some great conversations with him and he knows how to coach his players. Coach Surtain is a tough coach, but he also knows how to love on you as a player or a person.
“The coaches at Florida State are great guys the program is in a great place.”
