5-star Travis Hunter leads Florida State's 7 recruits in the updated On300 rankings
There has not been much for Florida State fans to cheer about the past few seasons. That may soon change thanks to their 2022 recruiting class, which features seven members of the updated On300 rankings.
Leading the group is one of the top players in the country: Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill athlete Travis Hunter.
Hunter first committed to the Seminoles before the pandemic in March of 2020. And he has stayed with Florida State through its struggles over the past 18 months.
During that time, he has further solidified his ranking in the highest echelon of the class. If you asked him, he would tell you there is nobody on his level.
Just this past weekend, he had a 70-yard pick-six, 28-yard touchdown reception and three-yard touchdown run.
Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson safety Sam McCall is the second-best recruit in the Seminoles class and only other Florida State commit to rank in the top 100. McCall slots in at No. 87.
The Seminoles also have two top-300 commits from IMG Academy, USA Today’s No. 2 team in the country. Moreno Valley (Calif.) quarterback AJ Duffy slots in at No. 273 and Memphis (Tenn.) offensive lineman Aliou Bah right behind him at No. 276.

Homestead (Fla.) High defensive lineman Daniel Lyons (No. 140), Miami Central offensive tackle Daughtry Richardson (No. 151) and Lafayette (Ala.) High offensive lineman Antavious Woody (No. 269) round out the On300 Florida State commits.
The Seminoles class has 18 commits in total.
Florida State’s play is not on the same level as its recruiting
Since Jimbo Fisher left for Texas A&M in 2017, Florida State has not had a winning season. For a program that had not had a losing record since Bobby Bowden’s first season in 1976, it has been a precipitous drop from college football’s elite.
This season has been its worst start in nearly five decades. After the movie-like heroics of McKenzie Milton almost pushed the Seminoles over Notre Dame on the opening weekend, Florida State has lost three straight to drop to 0-4.
But the struggles haven’t translated to this year’s recruiting class, which is borderline top 10 in the country and one of the best in the ACC.
Only Clemson (11) and North Carolina (8) have more On300 prospects than the Seminoles.
And none of them have a player like Travis Hunter.
