Cam Leiter injury update: Link Jarrett reveals Florida State pitcher will 'probably not' play again this season

The news on Florida State ace Cam Leiter continues to sour as the season nears an end, and it’s beginning to look pretty unlikely that the UCF transfer will return this season.
Leiter has been on the shelf since March 28 with an injury. He’s worked to rehab it since, and as a of a few weeks ago a return was hopeful, potentially even imminent.

No longer, though. Coach Link Jarrett said he’s unlikely to return this season.
“Probably not. Probably not,” Jarrett said. “Yeah, I mean I guess you get deep into Omaha (maybe). This thing looked like it was headed in the right direction, but probably not based on what we’ve seen for the last week. So it’s unfortunate. I wouldn’t completely rule it out, but it doesn’t seem like it’s lining up.”
Cam Leiter started the season 5-1 and boasts a 4.63 ERA on the year.
Prior to transferring to Florida State he was a unanimous AAC All-Freshman Team selection at UCF in 2023.
Florida State makes it over the regional round hump
Jarrett has been thrilled with his team this year, especially after a season in 2023 that went anything but as scripted. The Seminoles missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 44 years.

It was a crushing blow to morale.
But this year’s team has bounced back nicely and enters the weekend as a considerable favorite to advance past UConn to reach Omaha and the College World Series. Even without Cam Leiter.
Jarrett opened up on what it’s been like.
“To perform consistently with athletic, talented players gives you an opportunity to sit where we’re sitting right now. That’s what this is about,” Jarrett said.
“It was as bad as it gets. I knew we had to make some roster maneuvers. It took one day to realize what we needed to do. Looking ahead to try to deepen the roster – gain some experience, become more athletic, cover the pitching staff with some depth and some left-handed arms. It was really tough. As you’re going through that, you better be recruiting and you better create a roster that you feel like puts you in this position. It’s not easy. As you’re going through that, you’re saying, ‘This cannot and will not happen again’. Now how do you solve it? The only thing you can do is try to coach them the best you can last year and then try to manage the roster and recruit.”
Job well done, Jarrett.
