Florida State head baseball coach Link Jarrett provided an unfortunate injury update on Seminoles pitcher Cam Leiter on Tuesday.

According to Jarrett, Cam Leiter is a ways away from being ready to contribute. Leiter got off to a strong start to the 2024 season, before being sidelined with an injury. He is apparently still not back to full strength.

“Yeah, Cam’s got a significant rehab. So there’s not even a discussion for that one,” Link Jarrett said, according to Warchant.

Cam Leiter made seven starts during the 2024 season after transferring in from UCF. He finished with a 5-1 record and 4.63 ERA across those seven starts.

Leiter also struck out an impressive 56 batters in 35 innings pitched, with opponents hitting .241 against him.

He was the Friday-night starter for Florida State to open the year, and during his first outing, Cam Leiter struck out 13 batters in 5 innings in an 11-0 win over Butler. The Bulldogs managed only one hit against Leiter.

He earned ACC Pitcher of the Week and D1 Pitcher of the Week honors after that performance.

Link Jarrett seemed confident late last year that Leiter was close to returning to the mound. However, nearly eight months later, he apparently still isn’t back healthy.

“Probably not. Probably not,” Jarrett said when asked last June if Leiter would be able to pitch again that season. “Yeah, I mean I guess you get deep into Omaha (maybe). This thing looked like it was headed in the right direction, but probably not based on what we’ve seen for the last week. So it’s unfortunate. I wouldn’t completely rule it out, but it doesn’t seem like it’s lining up.”

Prior to coming to Florida State, Cam Leiter was named to the AAC All-Freshman Team after going 3-2 with a 4.92 ERA during his one season at UCF. He pitched in 15 games and made 14 starts for the Knights as a freshman in 2023.

Leiter also racked up strikeouts during his one season at UCF, finishing with 80 in 56 2/3 innings pitched.

Before beginning his college career, Leiter attended Central Regional High School in Bayville, New Jersey. He earned first-team All-State honors as a senior.

During his final season of high school baseball, Leiter had a 0.89 ERA and 90 strikeouts on the mound. He also hit .479 and had eight home runs.

Link Jarrett had a strong second season at Florida State in 2024, going 49-17 and helping the Seminoles advance to the College World Series semifinals.
