DJ Uiagalelei injury update: Timeline for return revealed for Florida State QB after surgery
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei is “potentially” out for the rest of the 2024 season. Recent reports revealed Uiagalelei was dealing with a hand injury and now, surgery was performed for repair. Best case scenario, the Seminoles get their quarterback back in a few weeks.
“Florida State QB DJ Uiagalelei underwent surgery this week to repair his throwing hand injury and is expected to miss at the very least several weeks and potentially the rest of the season,” Zenitz said via X.
On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed the report.
Uiagalelei suffered the reported broken finger late in the fourth quarter with Florida State already down to SMU. Adding insult to injury, the Mustangs intercepted Uiagalelei and took it back for a pick-six, extending the lead to 26 points.
Not much has gone right for Mike Norvell‘s squad this season. While Uiagalelei has not been the main issue, his play certainly has not helped. The former Clemson and Oregon State signal-caller is completing just 53.8% of his throws, going for 1,065 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions in five games played.
If Uiagalelei does wind out missing the rest of the season, there is an avenue for him to return for a sixth season of college football. Nakos broke down the possibility on Thursday and explained what would go into the process for applying for an NCAA waiver.

For the time being, Brock Glenn will be Florida State’s starter, beginning on Saturday with a big primetime showdown against Clemson. Norvell had positive things to say about Glenn and his practice performance heading into the game.
“I thought it was good,” Norvell said. “Obviously, there’s some things we’re looking at; different schemes, different elements that we might face. It’s about making sure that our eyes are in the right place so we can play fast, we can obviously execute quickly.
“I thought he made some good decisions. I thought he made some things that we’ll be able to go back and correct on film. Same with Luke [Kromenhoek]. You’ll hear it’s the first day of installation and the things that we’re doing for this week’s plan. All in all, solid day and I thought those guys worked hard.”
