DJ Uiagalelei, Roydell Williams injury updates: Mike Norvell offers latest on status for final two weeks
Amid a difficult season for Florida State, the Seminoles have battled with injuries. That includes two big-name players like DJ Uiagalelei and Roydell Williams. Now, with just two weeks remaining, head coach Mike Norvell shared their injury status in a new update.
Norvell explained that Williams still has a chance to play one more game and redshirt, which he’s potentially going to be able to do. However, Uiagalelei won’t likely see the field again this season.
“Roydell is progressing well,” Mike Norvell said. “I don’t expect him back this week. He still has one more game of opportunity to be able to play. We’re going to push with everything that we have to probably have him available the next week. He’s still just now kind of getting back into the swing of things. I like the progress. I like the work. He’s done a great job just trying to pour into the group of running backs.”
Roydell Williams is an experienced transfer who came to Florida State after playing four seasons at Alabama. In three games this season, he has 20 carries for 54 yards and two touchdowns. He also has five receptions for 46 yards. He’s been out since September.
“I don’t believe where as things are right now that DJ will be available. He’s progressing. Definitely putting in a lot of work on his end of it. He’s been remarkable in the meeting room and I’ve talked throughout the course of the year about the way he’s been there to support the quarterbacks, obviously that position group, and obviously this team. He’s been at every practice, been very engaged trying to assist and help,” Norvell said.

“As he’s coming back, starting to get a chance to throw the ball a little bit but I just don’t think it’s going to progress in time. But, definitely, he’s working every day.”
DJ Uiagalelei came to Florida State as a transfer to be the team’s starting quarterback. He previously spent time at Clemson and Oregon State but struggled after taking over in Tallahassee. In five games this season, Uiagalelei completed 53.8 percent of passes for 1,065 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also rushed for -8 yards on 37 carries, including sack yardage.
In the SMU game, Uiagalelei was injured and ended up needing surgery to repair a broken finger on his throwing hand. At the time, it was reported that he could return in 2024, though missing the entire year was also possible. He was then replaced by Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek, though both have struggled.
Florida State will end the season with a pair of home games against Charleston Southern and Florida.
