Fentrell Cypress provides outside perspective of Florida State program
Over the past couple of years, Mike Norvell has worked to rebuild the Florida State football program. After a 10-3 season with a bowl win, it looks like Norvell is on the right track. Now, Fentrell Cypress has given his outsider opinion of where the football program is right now.
Fentrell Cypress is a defensive back who transferred from Virginia to Florida State. A large part of his decision to do that was his perspective of the program.
“When I was watching the games, everybody was there to win. That’s what I liked a lot, you know?” Fentrell Cypress said.
“There was, like nobody was selfish. They were just trying to do their job at the highest level to win the game and that’s what they’re trying to do this upcoming season as well and that’s something I wanted to be a part of.”
Over the past two seasons with Virginia, Fentrell Cypress has played in 16 games, recording 56 tackles and one interception. He’ll work to build on those numbers with Florida State this season.

“So, just overall, looking at that and watching how hard these guys fight to win was just something special and you could tell they had a relationship off the field on how hard they fought on the field.”
Who Fentrell Cypress models his game after
Like most players, Fentrell Cypress looks up to NFL players who he tries to model his game after. While speaking to the media, Cypress briefly spoke about those players that he would like his game to mimic.
“I like to watch Jaire Alexander, Stephon Gilmore. Those are my top two guys I like to watch when it comes to watching film and model my game after,” said Fentrell Cypress.
“I feel like, technique-wise, there’s a lot of little things that can help a DB become a good DB to a great DB. So there are many things I would like to work on during the off season, even when it comes to the weight room as well. Getting stronger faster and having more knowledge of the game will help me play faster. There’s a lot of things that I have in mind that I would like to improve on throughout this season.”
