Mike Norvell explains why WR Ja'Khi Douglas was not on FSU's initial depth chart
The Florida State Seminoles are preparing for the upcoming Week 0 matchup against Duquesne. But on their depth chart for their upcoming game, there was a noticeable absence, wide receiver Ja’Khi Douglas. But there was a good reason behind Douglas’s absence from Florida State’s initial depth chart, as head coach Mike Norvell explained.
“Ja’Khi is doing a great job, you know. Just in his growth playing receiver, getting into the backfield,” said Norvell. “He got banged up a little bit in one of the scrimmages, so he’s not gonna be available here this week. We feel that he’ll be back soon, but it’s one of those unfortunate things that he did get banged up, and obviously, that’s why he’s not on the depth chart.”
The speedy red-shirt sophomore from Houma, LA, was expected to play a more prominent role in the Seminoles’ offense this season. The Seminoles love his dual-threat ability and utilize him both in the passing and running game. Last season Douglas recorded 14 receptions for 255 yards and a touchdown; along with seven rushing attempts for six yards.
Unfortunately for him, he will have to sit out Florida State’s home opener. But hopefully, he will be able to return when the Seminoles take on his home state’s most prominent program, the LSU Tigers, in its biggest city of New Orleans.

Jordan Travis reveals the identity of the Florida State offense ahead of 2022 season
The Seminoles did not have much of an offensive identity throughout the 2021 season. This resulted in some games where the team just looked somewhat lost on the offensive side of the ball. If the Seminoles want to bounce back from last season’s woes, an offensive identity must be forged. And that is something Florida State has been working hard on throughout this offseason.
Starting quarterback Jordan Travis recently revealed the Seminoles’ new identity on offense ahead of the 2022 season.
“I think we can do everything well. We can block well, throw the ball very well, run the ball,” said Travis. “It’s a bunch of tough guys that come to work every single day. Camp has been very tough. Guys have come here every single day and worked their tails off, and I’m proud of them. I’ll just say it’s a hard-nosed football team. It could run the ball down your throat, and we can also throw the ball deep.”
Florida State’s struggles on offense last season could be directly linked to the team’s struggles along the offensive line end at quarterback. The Seminoles allowed 36 sacks in 2021 between their two starting quarterbacks, McKenzie Milton and Travis. The two battled through most of the beginning part of the year to be named the starter, with Travis winning out in the end, courtesy of his dual-threat ability.
