Florida State basketball trolls Miami following blowout victory

The Florida State Seminoles cruised to an easy win over their rivals on Wednesday night, throttling the Miami Hurricanes 80-65. Not only that, but they did also it in front of the home crowd in Coral Gables. Following the win, the Seminoles decided to troll the ‘Canes on social media, “Hurricane has been downgraded to a tropical storm,” the FSU page tweeted.

Florida State had three players in double figures, Malique Ewin pumped in 20 points and 10 rebounds, Taylor Bol Bowen pumped in 16 points, and Jamir Watkins had 10 points and three assists. It was the third double-double of the year for Ewin.

Daquan Davis nearly had a double-double for the ‘Noles, scoring nine points and dishing out 10 assists. Florida State did an excellent job of sharing the rock as a team, finishing with 26 assists. Miami finished the game with 11 assists. The Seminoles also shot much better from the field, connecting on 41.7% of their shots from beyond-the-arc.

They also hit 32 of their 64 shots from the field (50.0%). Miami connected on 22 of their 60 shots (36.7%), while drilling 5 of 21 shots (23.8%) from beyond-the-arc. Hurricanes star Matthew Cleveland had 16 points and five rebounds. Miami’s Paul Djobet had 13 points and three rebounds.

Florida State (11-4, 2-2 in the ACC) beat the Hurricanes for the 14th time in the last 15 meetings. The streak began with a 103-94 win on Jan. 27, 2018.

FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton won his 193rd regular-season game in the ACC, moving past former Maryland coach Gary Williams for fourth all-time on the list. Miami (4-11, 0-4 ACC) has lost 14 straight games since their 82-74 victory over Virginia Tech on February 3rd, 2024. The Hurricanes haven’t won a home game against FSU in the series since Jan. 7, 2018.

Next up for the Seminoles, they’ll face off against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 11th. That one is set to tip-off at 2:00 PM EST on ACC Network. Miami will go up against Wake Forest on Saturday, Jan. 11th. That one will be at 5:15 PM EST and it’s set to be televised on The CW Network.
