Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is staying in Tallahassee and won’t be leaving for the Alabama head coaching job.

Norvell took to Twitter to reaffirm his commitment to the Seminoles on Friday.

“GREAT DAY to be a FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLE!! The #CLIMBContinues grateful for to lead the #NoleFamily with our incredible staff,” Mike Norvell posted on Twitter.

Norvell has received a hefty contract extension and raise to stay with the Seminoles, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo!

“Mike Norvell and Florida State have agreed to a new eight-year contract that will pay him more than $10 million a year,” Dellenger posted.

Norvell is getting rewarded after an impressive 13-1 season. The 42-year-old went 3-6 in Year 1 at FSU, before going 5-7, 10-3 and 13-1.

Norvell has been linked to the Alabama job after Nick Saban retired earlier this week. He hasn’t previously spent any time at Alabama, but he made sense as a potential candidate thanks to the success he had at Memphis and now Florida State.

In addition to Norvell, a couple of other potential candidates have announced that they will be staying at their schools in recent days.

Oregon coach Dan Lanning shared on Thursday that he is staying in Eugene, while Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian seemed to imply Thursday night that he will be staying in Austin.

With Mike Norvell, Dan Lanning and seemingly Steve Sarkisian staying put, Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer may be the most likely candidate to end up at Alabama at this time.

DeBoer has been mentioned as a serious candidate for the past two days and on Friday he canceled a scheduled appearance on a radio show.

A local radio station, 93.3 KJR, was promoting an interview with DeBoer for ‘Chuck and Buck In The Morning’ Friday morning. However, roughly two hours before his scheduled appearance, the station announced that it will no longer take place.

“We know you were looking forward to a visit with Coach DeBoer this morning. Please understand that Coach DeBoer & UW Athletics are continuing to work towards a future we can all be excited about,” the station wrote. “At this time, Coach will not be joining us this morning but we will reschedule our interview soon.”

A little while later, 93.3 KJR added another tweet for further context. They shared that DeBoer was unavailable due to a meeting with Husky AD Troy Dannen this morning. While the station suggested that it could be related to a potential extension, there’s no concrete details besides the fact that the two apparently met on Friday
