Florida State defensive back Omarion Cooper is heading back into the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Cooper started his career at Florida State before transferring to Colorado ahead of the 2023 season. Following one year in Boulder, Cooper re-entered the portal and returned to FSU this past season.

Cooper played in 32 career games over the last four seasons. He only played three in 2024, finishing with two tackles.

Cooper’s career totals are: 69 tackles, two tackles for loss, three interceptions, 10 pass deflections, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.

As a member of the Class of 2021, Cooper was a three-star recruit out of Lehigh Acres (Fla.) Senior, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 58 overall prospect in the state, the No. 37 cornerback in the class and the No. 414 overall prospect in the class.

Cooper will look elsewhere to finish his college career as Florida State loos to hit the reset button. It was a disastrous 2-10 campaign after winning the ACC in 2023.

Head coach Mike Norvell promised that there would be a fast and immediate fix for the football program and that the 2025 season wouldn’t be anything like what happened this year.

“Awful season,” Mike Norvell said. “That’s the best way I can put it. Very disappointing that we performed the way we did. A lot of circumstances that have shown up. Our fair share of adversity and some things that were outside of our control. Some things that we did control. We had a lot of young players that got opportunities and had to kind of get thrown into it before maybe their time.

“But with each of those reps they got, it’s an opportunity to grow, opportunity to build upon it. Just like I told the team there in the locker room, this is getting fixed. It’s going to be an immediate, fast fix.”
