Florida State defensive lineman Patrick Payton intends to enter NCAA transfer portal
Florida State defensive lineman Patrick Payton intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced Tuesday via Twitter. Payton spent the past three seasons with the Seminoles and was a starter at defensive end in 2023.
Payton had his best statistical season yet as a redshirt sophomore this year to finish with 42 tackles (13.5 for loss), six sacks, one forced fumble and 10 pass breakups. That was coming off of a season in 2022 in which he recorded 31 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble and three pass breakups. That earned him ACC Freshman of the Year honors.
Payton played high school football at Northwestern High School in Miami, where he was a four-star prospect. He ranked as the No. 210 overall player and No. 25 linebacker in the 2021 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Because Patrick Payton took a redshirt as a true freshman at Florida State, he will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he decides to transfer.
