Paul Finebaum evaluates Deion Sanders' Florida State comments amid playoff snub
Paul Finebaum heard what Deion Sanders said regarding the College Football Playoff and how Nick Saban and Alabama were never going to be left out.
Finebaum didn’t disagree with Coach Prime, but expanded upon the point. Sanders’ big point was that he didn’t exactly feel bad for Florida State because Alabama getting into the CFP over the Seminoles was a business decision.
Basically, it is what it is. Finebaum wanted the people to realize Sanders spoke some truth to the matter.
“I think there was partial truth in what he said Greeny, yes,” Finebaum said on Get Up. “Nick Saban is the Godfather, he’s the GOAT. But it’s also worth remembering, oh, 52 weeks ago when Alabama was at No. 5, they did not get in and quite frankly, they should have in many people’s minds.
“Nick Saban lobbied everywhere he could. So it’s a mixed judgment. But ultimately, what I think Deion is trying to say is that this is entertainment. And I think a lot of people are failing to realize that.”
Finebaum chalked up the committee’s decision to watching the conference championship games and the final decision was made then. It seems logical since Florida State was the No. 4 team in the penultimate week.

“This committee is a committee, they get together, they watch games together, and I can’t get it out of my mind that they’re watching this game on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, and they’re thinking this was unbelievable,” Finebaum said. “We have two of the best teams in the country. And then they watched that night from Charlotte when they saw Louisville and Florida State and it did not look like the highest quality football, so I think they made their decision based on that.”
Joining the Dan Le Batard Show, Sanders sent a message regarding Florida State not getting into the top four.
“I can’t be upset, we recruiting against those guys,” Sanders said. “You got to understand that this is business now. You got to look at it, a lot of people don’t look at it like this is business. This is entertainment but this is business.
“So it’s no way you’re gonna leave Coach Saban and Alabama out of a playoff. Who should be really upset, not only Florida State, but Kirby Smart. He’s been what, No. 1 for the last two years or three years and they’re out? What about them? I mean, this is unbelievable. I want those problems, yeah give me those problems.”
