With the 2024 calendar off and running, many of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting cycle will be taking visits to some of their top schools.

Mike Norvell and Florida State are looking to build another elite class in Tallahassee. On Tuesday, Baltimore Dr. Henry Wise four-star defensive lineman Trent Wilson, one of the top junior DLs in the country, announced that he’ll be making his way to the Sunshine State for a visit on Jan. 27.

FSU is yet to extend an official offer to Wilson, but the Seminoles are now next in line to get a crack at making an in-person impression on Wilson — who announced a top 12 in August that consisted of USC, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Miami, Maryland, Rutgers, Texas A&M, and Penn State.

Wilson is the No. 85 overall prospect and No. 9 DL in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 player in Maryland.

Penn State, Maryland among those pushing for Wilson

The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder made the rounds in 2023, visiting a hefty crop of programs, including Texas, LSU, Ohio State and Penn State. The Nittany Lions have already had the touted lineman on campus for five documented trips.

“It’s always a great time when I go to Happy Valley,” Wilson told BWI after a trip to PSU last April. “The highlight was that I was able to see practice and also see Coach [Deion] Barnes coach for the first time. He did a great job.

“What also stood out to me was how a normal day would go for the players. They had multiple meetings and all that good stuff. Also, I liked the way that they translate what they learned to the field. That means that they are getting coached up for sure.”

Penn State currently leads for Wilson’s pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The in-state Maryland Terrapins are currently second behind the Nittany Lions. Wilson made a pair of visits to College Park in 2023 as Mike Locksley and Co. try to land another blue-chip recruit.

“Wilson is a major target for Penn State,” On3’s Chad Simmons wrote in November. “The four-star defensive lineman out of Baltimore Henry Wise has visited Happy Valley before, he has a good connection with the staff and the Nittany Lions sit in a good position early for Wilson. Maryland is working hard to keep him home, and numerous other schools are on his list, but Penn State is high on his list.”

Florida State looking to build 2025 class

As of Jan. 9, the Seminoles have three commits in their 2025 recruiting class. Headlining the trio is Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines four-star offensive tackle Solomon Thomas, the No. 28 overall prospect and No. 6 OT in the cycle. He pledged to FSU on Dec. 22.

“I actually wanted to commit the day after they had said that Florida State wasn’t going to go to the playoffs, which I was kind of upset about because I was rooting for them. … It hurt me, so I was like, ‘OK, I’m gonna make it to where they can’t count us out again,” Thomas told Warchant.

Flanking Thomas is Sanford (Fla.) Seminole four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard and Jacksonville Mandarin three-star quarterback Tramell Jones. Pritchard is the No. 34 LB in the cycle, while Jones checks in as the No. 27 signal-caller.
