Florida State forward Jamir Watkins enters the NCAA Transfer Portal
Florida State’s Jamir Watkins has entered his name into the transfer portal per On3’s Pete Nakos.
Per Nakos, he has also done so with a ‘do not contact’ tag on his entry.
Watkins has already declared for the 2024 NBA Draft too. That leaves all options on the table for him as he begins the upcoming process.
Watkins just finished his one and only season with the Seminoles after three years at VCU. That leaves him with one season of eligibility left with whatever program, which will be the third of his career, that he eventually decides on if he returns to college.
Watkins has appeared in 94 games in his career for the ‘Noles and Rams. He would have more on his total had he not missed all of his sophomore season due to a knee injury, which is when he redshirted to have this fifth eligible season. 52 of those have been starts with 33 of them being from last season in Tallahassee as a full-time starter.
In those games, Watkins has averaged 11 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.4 steals. In a career-best season this past year, Watkins posted 15.6 points, six rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.9 steals while shooting 45.7% from the field and 34.4% from three. That made him Florida State’s leader in points, rebounds, and steals.

Watkins, a native of Trenton, New Jersey, played high school basketball at Trenton Catholic School. He then committed to VCU coming out as a member of the 2020 cycle.
Watkins was one of three transfers to join Florida State last season in the portal. Primo Spears (Duquesne, Georgetown), who averaged 10.6 points and 2.1 assists in ’23-’24, and Josh Nickelberry (La Salle) also came into the program. That trio made up the No. 63 class in the country per On3’s 2023 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.
Now, one offseason later, Watkins will re-enter as one of eight players to be transferring from the team. Cameron Corhen (Pittsburgh), De’Ante Green (USF), and Tom House (Furman) have all entered and already committed elsewhere to this point. Watkins and Spears are also in now alongside Cam’Ron Fletcher, Baba Miller, and Jalen Warley.
As for additions, Leonard Hamilton has brought in three transfers this offseason. Hampton’s Jerry Deng committed first back in April after averaging 10.1 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 46% as a freshman for the Pirates. FSU then earned commitments from a pair of others on Wednesday to start the month of May in UTSA’s Justin Thomas and South Dakota’s Bostyn Holt.
