Florida State head coach Mike Norvell provided an injury update on star receiver Johnny Wilson during his press conference on Monday.

Wilson left Saturday’s 39-17 win over Virginia Tech during the third quarter with an injury, and Norvell is unsure if he will be able to suit up on Saturday against Syracuse.

“Yea, you know, I mean it’s going to be something that we see as we go throughout the course of the week,” Mike Norvell said. “Johnny was feeling better yesterday. And so we’re excited about where we think it can go. But ultimately, you take it day-by-day this week. I thought he did a wonderful job there in the first half on Saturday. He really has taken his game to another level just in how he played and what he’s been able to do. So hopeful to be able to get him back rolling here early in the week.”

Johnny Wilson got banged up in the third quarter of Saturday’s win and had to be helped to the sideline. He eventually went to the locker room.

The 6-foot-7 receiver caught four passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns, prior to going down with the injury.

So far this season, Wilson has 20 catches for 357 yards and two scores.

He did provide a positive update on his status following Saturday’s win.

“I’m straight! Love these boys man! #GoNoles,” Wilson tweeted.

Florida State wide receiver Winston Wright no longer with football team

Florida State lost some depth at the receiver position earlier this week as Winston Wright is no longer on the team.

Wright hadn’t seen any action for the Seminoles over the past four weeks.

Wright was in his second season with Florida State but his first being available for the Seminoles. After transferring in last year, he was injured in a car accident that took him out for the entire season.

In his two appearances with FSU this fall, Wright caught four passes for 36 yards.

Before coming to Tallahassee, Wright started his career in Morgantown with West Virginia. In his three seasons as a Mountaineer, he made 129 catches for 1,338 yards and seven touchdowns. That was good for a two-time leader for the program in receptions in 2020 and 2021.

Wright was a three-star prospect and a Top-150 WR back in the 2019 class per On3’s Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Out of Memorial Day School as a native of Savannah, Georgia, he was a Top-100 recruit in the state in that cycle.
