Coaches are out on the recruiting trail in January, and the staff at Florida State is no exception. Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell visited Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep 2025 four-star cornerback Chris Ewald on Wednesday.

Ewald visited Tallahassee this past weekend and has an upcoming visit scheduled for Miami.

The 5-foot-11, 161-pound Ewald decommitted from Michigan on January 15. He had been a member of the Wolverines’ class since December 2022.

Ewald is the nation’s No. 74 overall prospect and No. 9 cornerback in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 10 recruit in Florida.

Ewald visited Tallahassee for the Florida State-Duke game in October. It was his first time at Doak Campbell Stadium for a game.

“It was a very exciting game, I really enjoyed it.” It was my first game, so it was a great first impression for me. . .,” Ewald told reporters after the game. “It definitely surprised me. I didn’t think it could get that loud, and the chants — you know, the traditional chants — I really enjoyed that.”

FSU defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain, who is a former high school football coach in South Florida, has played a major role in Ewald’s recruitment.

“Me and Coach Surtain come from the same place, so the relationship wasn’t hard to build — kind of already knew each other a little bit, so just continue to build it,” Ewald said. “There is really no [recruiting] message. It’s like we know each other really well, so we just talk as just a regular conversation.”
