Head coach Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles are looking to bounce back from their tough 19-17 loss to NC State as they head into their toughest matchup of the season at home against No. 4 unbeaten Clemson. Quarterback Jordan Travis could be the biggest catalyst in what could be a major bounce-back week for the Seminoles, which all starts at practice.

“I thought he did a good job today, and some things people don’t notice even just watching it, unless you know exactly some of the things that are being addressed that we want to see,” Norvell said.

Norvell elaborated on some of the intricacies of Travis’ game they’ve been working on this week, as they prepare to face a Clemson defense that has been one of the perennial units in the ACC and his holding opponents to just 18.3 points per game so far this season.

“Maybe a ball location, or where are we trying to hit our points, what’s the rhythm, what’s the timing, a certain progression, and there’s always things when you get into a Tuesday of different looks, especially playing a defense like Clemson’s, who knows what you’re gonna see?” Norvell asked. “I mean they’re gonna do so many different things that they throw at you.”

Travis had a modest outing in the Seminole’s last game throwing for 181 yards and a touchdown pass, as well as leading the team in rushing with 108 yards on the ground. But also threw two interceptions and only completed 50% of his passes.

“Just making sure that his eyes are right, that he’s going through trusting his fundamentals, and I thought he did a great job of that. He is such a competitor and he wants to play so well and, and he has played so well throughout this year, but there’s been moments that you have a disappointing play, you have an outcome that doesn’t go the way you envision it and now it’s time to respond, and the only way you can do that is you have to learn,” Norvell said.

Their QB1 may be coming off of his worst game of the season throwing the ball, but Norvell is confident in Travis’ ability to learn from his mistakes, corroborated by his performance on and off the field this week for the Seminoles.

“It’s not something ‘well just forget about what happened’, bull crap, you better go and pay attention to what happened, what can I do to be better, and what are the steps that I’m going to apply to the corrections to be able to showcase that,” Norvell explained. “And that’s what he does a really nice job of and just even in meetings today I just noticed he’s got the right edge and I’m sure he’s pissed off about some things that have occurred and so am I. That’s the kind of guys I want to ride with and he definitely is impressive, I thought he had a good day.”
