Mike Norvell reveals his initial reaction when Jordan Travis went down with injury
Florida State may have won in their Friday night showdown against Louisville, but they lost some players in the process. Key players like quarterback Jordan Travis and defensive lineman Jared Verse suffered injuries at different points of the game and never returned. Head coach Mike Norvell spoke about his immediate reactions when he sees one of his players go down with an injury.
“Anytime a player goes down on the field I always go out to them and it’s something that’s important because there’s so much investment for players and to be able to play this game. Regardless of what injury it is, when they have to miss a play or miss a series or whatever that time is, it’s emotional,” Norvell said.
It’s clear that Norvell cares deeply about his players and takes injuries very seriously, as he spoke more on player injuries that happen during the game, why they demand so much attention, and what the Seminoles process is like when they occur.
“Obviously we have really tough guys and I think they’ve shown their toughness and whenever they are down and can’t get off the field, it’s something that you hurt for them. For me it was just making sure everything was alright in the sense of their on the field and we go through our process,” Norvell said. “We have a process with every injury that we have of what we do, what we look at, obviously we have incredible doctors and athletic training staff. And so we go through our procedures and if guys are able to come back in then they get back in, if they can’t then we continue to move on.”
Norvell gave a brief update on his four injured players from Saturday’s game, expressing optimism that they’ll eventually return to action for the Seminoles.

“But that’s kind of just how we process it and coming through this weekend we were able to get further testing and evaluation with all those guys, Jordan, Jared, Rob [Scott], Malcolm [Ray], there’s a lot of guys that went down at different times throughout the course of that game. I felt very good about where a lot of those reports came back and we’ll continue to evaluate it as the week goes on,” Norvell said.
Norvell was vague on the status of his newly injured players but seemed optimistic about their injury status and their ability to return to play, similar to other players that he’s already seen do this season.
“And I know these guys they put so much into it, and so anytime you have to miss any amount of time it just hurts,” Norvell explained. “I hate it for them, but I know they attack their rehab and we’re seeing that through the early part of this season with a lot of guys that have been able to get back and play, even before we thought they could. But these guys, they’re fighters and definitely gonna work.”
